About

STR is a modern facility that is highly specialised in the blending and storage of marine fuels which are critical to the global economy, with no clear alternative to their use in the medium / long term.

Total capacity

0,0 cbm

The business is an independent bulk liquid storage terminal located in the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The facility has a total capacity of 242,154 cbm and is designed specifically for the storage of ‘bunker fuels’, a group of products of varying specification that are used for the fuelling of maritime vessels.

Rotterdam is considered a key bunkering hub in the ARA (Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam) region, in part due to it being the largest port in Europe and therefore a convenient place for vessels to refuel, but also due to its location at the centre of the European petrochemical industry.

Following the signing of a new contract in October 2023, all of the current capacity of the terminal is contracted on a ‘take or pay’ basis until June 2029.

Why we invested

  • Predictable revenues: Tanks are fully contracted on a ‘take or pay’ basis which offers good cashflow visibility and an attractive risk / reward profile
  • Excellent location: A leading independent bunker fuel storage terminal strategically located in the Botlek region of Rotterdam which is the busiest port in Europe
  • Energy transition: The terminal is well equipped to blend and store lower sulphur and carbon fuels as environmental legislation continues to evolve
  • Maritime fuel: The storage facility stores and blends maritime fuel, which is integral to global trade with limited other alternatives in the medium to long term

Outcomes

  • New contract: Service Terminal Rotterdam signed a new five-year offtake agreement with a leading oil major in 2023
  • Sustainable fuel storage: The business is preparing an expansion into sustainable fuels storage
  • Vapour recovery unit: Over €2.5m is being invested in a new state-of-the-art Vapour Recovery Unit at the terminal
