About

Durham Schools included the design, construction and provision of facilities management services for three new schools in County Durham: Shotton Hall Academy, Sedgefield Community College and Shotton Hall Primary school. The schools form part of the BSF Government initiative.

Total school capacity

> 0,0 pupils

Shotton Hall Secondary School construction completed 7th February 2012, Sedgefield Community College (now Sedgefield Academy) completed 16th January 2012 and Shotton Hall Primary School completed 7th November 2011.  The Operational phase for all sites is 25 years.

Sedgefield Community College, Durham, was named The Sunday Times Northeast Secondary School of the Decade by Parent Power in December 2020. Durham County Council participated in the BSF programme and has attributed the school building to significantly improving outcomes[1].

Size

> 0,0 sq m

The college opened in January 2011 and has exceptional facilities throughout,  including diffused natural daylight transmitted via the rooflights, optimal thermal and acoustic levels which all contribute towards creating a healthy environment for students to learn. Other innovative features include a ‘living roof’, which has been incorporated to support local biodiversity. Living roofs also have the potential to improve the college’s resilience to the impacts of climate change by reducing storm water run-off velocity and volumes, and by increasing the cooling effect during hotter summers.

Building Schools for the Future (‘BSF’)

Building Schools for the Future (‘BSF’) was a long-term programme of investment and change in England aiming to transform education for secondary age students by providing 21st century learning environments that engage and inspire young people, their teachers and the wider community.

Why we invest in PPPs

PPPs provide much needed critical infrastructure often replacing older public sector properties with new state of the art facilities operated by experienced facilities management contractors. The investments provide stable long-term, index-linked cash flows backed by high quality public sector counterparties.

  • Stable income from high quality counterparties: The investment companies receive availability-based revenues from public sector counterparties
  • International delivery model: INPP has invested in PPP assets in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Europe and the UK
  • Long-term, predictable cash flows: PPP concessions will typically last for between 25 and 35 years
  • Risk transfer: Construction and operational risks are transferred to investment company’s supply chain partners
  • Inflation-protected revenues: Revenues are generally inflation-linked and indexed to local inflation measures, such as the UK’s Retail Price Index (‘RPI’)
  • Critical infrastructure: INPP’s PPP investments deliver much needed critical infrastructure to the public sector, supporting local societies and communities across our key geographies
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by UN Member States in 2015

SDGs supported:

Outcomes

  • One of the UK’s leading education sector investors: INPP’s school portfolio includes Building Schools for the Future (BSF’s) and the UK’s Priority Schools Building Programme, making the Company one of the UK’s largest education infrastructure investors and asset managers
  • International presence: INPP has long-term investments in over 260 schools globally, delivering the capacity for over 135,000 pupil places to the local populations
  • Focus on new build infrastructure: INPP has invested in over 145 new build schools
  • Quality education: INPP has helped to deliver resilient infrastructure that supports equitable and lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDG 4)
